Penrite Honda Racing’s Troy Herfoss has elevated himself to the top of the 2019 Australian Superbike Championship standings after sharing overall honours with Suzuki’s Wayne Maxwell in the penultimate round at Phillip Island on Sunday, October 6.
Maxwell won the opener before Herfoss turned the tables in the second 12-lapper. That was enough for Herfoss to take a 3pt (241 to 238) over Maxwell into the final round at Sydney Motorsport Park from November 1-3.
“This weekend has been a bit of a dream really,” said Herfoss.
“I signed a new contract coming into the round and I’m so stoked to be with Honda for 2020.
"To come to a track that everyone thinks I can’t ride, put in one of my fastest laps, get a second, a race win, the overall and the championship lead is just incredible. When the pressure is on, funny things happen.”

Polesitter Mike Jones (Ducati) was third in race one ahead of Josh Waters (Suzuki) and Cru Halliday (Yamaha) and in race two Waters, Daniel Falzon (Yamaha) and Matt Walters (Kawasaki) completed the top five.
Jones and Halliday both crashed in race two.
Jones is third in the championship on 236.5 points, while Halliday (222), Waters (216) and Bryan Staring (211.5) remain in the mathematical hunt ahead of the Sydney finale.
Meanwhile, Tom Toparis (Yamaha) wrapped up the supersport title at Phillip Island with a round to spare after yet another dominant performance.
