Harley-Davidson to unveil all-new 1250 model in July

The new model is likely to be the 1250 Custom powered by the same Revolution Max powertrain as the Pan America

Harley-Davidson is set to reveal a new model powered by its Revolution Max powertrain, with the Milwaukee firm teasing what is almost certain to be the long-awaited 1250 Custom.

The upcoming model will be unveiled in a virtual launch on July 14 and it will share the same 1252cc V-twin engine as the Harley-Davidson Pan America adventure tourer.

Harley has long hinted at the arrival of the 1250 Custom, which will replace the outgoing Sportster range of motorcycles. The company had previously released concept images as part of its ‘Future Vehicles’ plan, while recent dialogue suggested the Custom would follow soon after the Pan America.

The Pan America has received rave reviews since its launch, with many praising the advanced Rev Max V-twin powerplant. The 1252cc engine puts out 150hp at 8750rpm and 127Nm at 6750rpm, and it runs double overhead cams and independent variable valve timing.

It is expected that the new 1250 Custom will share similar power and torque figures to the Pan America, but will have a unique tune for sporty tarmac use.

Harley also had plans to release the Bronx streetfighter with a smaller 975cc version of the Rev Max engine, but that model appears to have been parked while the company focuses on the Pan Am and the 1250 Custom.

“Following the successful launch of our first adventure touring motorcycle, the Pan America, we are excited to reveal another all-new motorcycle,” said H-D CEO, Jochen Zeitz. “It is built on the Revolution Max platform in the sport segment, and will showcase unmatched Harley-Davidson technology, performance and style.”

Harley-Davidson has been very active of late, with the company moving quickly on the radical ‘Hardwire’ strategy that was unveiled last year. After years of falling sales, the iconic brand is hoping to revitalize itself by entering new markets.

In recent times, the firm has launched the all-electric LiveWire, as well as its first adventure tourer in the Pan America. It also recently launched its Icons collection, which celebrates classic H-D models.

The virtual launch of the new model will take place online at 1am AEST on July 14.
