Harley-Davidson to stay in SA

Thanks to a rent sweetener from the South Australian government, manufacturing plant will continue to pump out wheels, hubs and other components

Harley-Davidson has announced that it will continue to operate its New Castalloy plant in in South Australia which produces wheel, hubs and other bike components.

In December 2011 we reported that Harley-Davidson would close the plant this year costing hundreds of jobs. However, the South Australian Government which owns the company's site, has waived the rent for the next four years giving the company a lifeline.

"This week it [New Castalloy] received confirmation from parent corporation the Harley Davidson Motor Company to stay in our state," Manufacturing Minister Tom Kenyon said.

"While market conditions are obviously challenging for some companies around the world, New Castalloy's success can be attributed to its commitment to superior quality products," he added.
