Harley-Davidson saddlebag mounting recall

It's been massive news in America with 185,000 units affected, and it's related to a mounting issue on 2014 and 2015 Touring models

Harley-Davidson Australia has issued a recall on its 2014 and 2015 Touring models due to a potential problem with saddlebags becoming loose.

The models affected are FLHR, FLHRC, FLHX, FLHXS, FLHTCU, FLHTCU TC, FLHCUL, FLHTCUL TC, FLHTK, FLHTKL, FLTRX, FLTRXS, FLHP, FLHTP, FLHRSE, FLHXSE, FLHTKSE and FLTRUSE.

The issue relates to the spring wire in the saddlebag mounting receptacle, which may not maintain adequate tension, allowing the mounting stud to possibly disengage from the receptacle. If the condition remains undetected, the saddlebag may become separated from the motorcycle while it is in motion, with the obvious hazards for all sorts of traffic.

Consumers should contact their nearest Harley Davidson dealer to confirm whether their motorcycle is affected and to arrange for repairs to be carried out.

A similar recall has also been issued in America, where Harley-Davidson has detected the issue through warranty claims. The company also said in documents filed with US agencies that it had no reports of crashes or injuries as of June.
