Harley-Davidson Highway King 1960s throwback revealed

Inspired by the 1968 FLH Electra Glide, the latest entry to the Harley Icons Collection blends old-school cool with modern technology

Harley-Davidson has revealed the latest addition to its exclusive Icons collection, with the new Electra Glide Highway King offering a modern take on 60s cruiser style.

Limited to just 1750 examples worldwide, the Highway King is inspired by the 1968 FLH Electra Glide model and features laced wheels, wide-whitewall tyres, a two-tone windshield, solo suspension seat, and carefully curated colours.

The new model is the third entry into the Icons collection, following the Electra Glide Revival and the Low Rider El Diablo. Each model in the Icons collection is individually numbered and produced only once in limited numbers.

In 1968, the Electra Glide was one of Harley-Davidson’s key models. It offered riders a number of touring-focused options in the King of the Highway accessories range, including fibreglass saddlebags, a windshield, a luggage rack over the rear fender, and engine gaurds.

“In its day, this was really a deluxe motorcycle,” said Brad Richards, Harley-Davidson Vice President of Design. “The colours we’ve selected for the Highway King model are reminiscent of the original colour options offered in 1968.”

The two colour options available for the Highway King are Hi-Fi Orange (limited to 1000 units) and Hi-Fi Magenta (limited to 750 units), however Australia and New Zealand will only receive the Hi-Fi Orange option.

Like the original, the Highway King will come with white saddlebags and a tall (and detachable) windshield. The rest of the bike is filled with small design details that celebrate the original ’68 FLH Electra Glide model.

At the heart of the new bike is the modern-day Milwaukee Eight 114 V-twin engine, which is built into a single-spar touring frame with a rigid backbone design. The bike also features a full suite of electronics, including cornering ABS, cornering electronic linked braking, cornering traction control, drag-torque slip control and hill hold control.

The Motor Company is celebrating its 120th Anniversary in 2023 and has released a number of exclusive models to celebrate. In addition to the Highway King, H-D also revealed a new "Fast Jonnie" paint scheme for select bagger models as part of its Enthusiast collection.

The 2023 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Highway King will check in at $42,995 ride away. Speak to your local Harley dealer for more information on availability.
