The Harley-Davidson 'Art of Custom' competition tasked contenders to create the ultimate artwork for a Harley-Davidson fuel tank. After something like 2000 entries from around the world, the 10 finalists have been chosen and the public has until May 31 to vote on their favourite.
There's a lot of skulls and a few eagles in the 10 final designs, the winner of which will ride home on their very own Harley-Davidson Sportster, complete with their custom tank design.
The idea behind the competition was to celebrate the idea of custom art, something that Harley-Davidson says goes hand in hand with not only its motorcycles, but it's company ethos and culture.
Of the thousands of entries that came in, the 10 finalists were chosen by a Harley-Davidson jury consisting of three designers Willie G. Davidson, Ray Drea, and Frank Savage, along with street artist David Le Batard, otherwise known as 'Lebo'.
The ten finalists are:
Of all the works our personal favourite is Anatomy of Motorcycles (???????? M????????) which shows the beating heart of a mammal on the tank. You can talk about your favourite design in the comments section below.
Voting has been ongoing for a while now and the most popular design with the general public will take out the "Art of Custom 2012" prize, a brand new Harley-Davidson motorcycle. But the winner will also get to tour the H-D factory in Milwaukee - along with second and third place getters - and also have their art displayed in the Harley-Davidson Museum.
