Hardcore KTM 390 Adventure R confirmed for 2025

The long-awaited R version of the KTM's popular adventure machine is expected to land in Australia this July

KTM has finally confirmed the dirt-ready 390 Adventure R for 2025 after its mysterious appearance at EICMA last year.

Equipped with a 21- and 18-inch wheel combo, dirt-friendly tyres, and fully adjustable WP Apex suspension with 230mm of travel front and rear, the 390 Adventure R should please off-road adventure riders, and provide strong competition for the likes of the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and the CFMOTO 450MT.

The bike is powered by the redesigned single-cylinder LC4c engine that debuted in the KTM 390 Duke last year and features a new gearbox and clutch, as well as a 14-litre metal fuel tank and an updated chassis.

Also new is the updated electronics suite which features a 5-inch TFT display, multiple ride modes including a dedicated off-road mode, switchable and cornering traction control, and full LED lighting. A quickshifter is optional as is WP XPLOR Pro suspension and cruise control, giving the 390 Adventure R the potential to be the best-equipped bike in the segment.

The 390 Adventure R was on display at EICMA 2024, but there was no official communication about its existence, leaving many people scratching their heads. But after what seemed like a long wait, KTM has finally confirmed it is on its way.

KTM has also announced the slightly more road-friendly 390 Adventure X, which essentially replaces the original 390 Adventure.

The X version features the same engine and chassis as the R but opts for non-adjustable WP Apex suspension with 200mm of travel front and rear, 19- and 17-inch cast alloy wheels, and a lower seat height. The X is not fitted with cornering traction control.

KTM Australia expects both bikes to arrive on our shores from July 2025, but there is no word on pricing just yet. New Zealand will get the 390 Adventure R in April, but will not get the 390 Adventure X.
