Hansen polishes off Super X in style

The American's become the first foreigner to win the Australasian Supercross Championship, and he's done it by continuing his hot streak

Kawasaki’s Josh Hansen clinched the 2010 Super X title in treacherous conditions at QSAC Stadium in Brisbane on December 4, in what was the culmination of a superb campaign for the American.

Hansen is now the first foreigner to win the Australasian Supercross Championship, following two years of domination by Chad Reed.

“I am really stoked Monster brought me out here for this series and I really want to thank my mechanic Eric Johnson for being with me the whole time,” said Hansen.

“Our goal was to win and that’s what we did so it’s going to be good returning home to the Kawasaki team in the US with this result. I have loved my time here in Australia and can’t wait to come back again next year.”

Heavy rain during the day completely soaked the track in Brisbane, which forced the promoter to cancel practice and qualifying.

In the triple challenge finals format, Hansen proved to be the man for all seasons yet again as he went 1-3-1 in the three motos to claim the overall from Billy Mackenzie (Kawasaki, 4-1-2), Tye Simmonds (KTM, 3-2-7), Jay Marmont (Yamaha, 2-6-4) and Daniel Reardon (Honda, 6-4-3).

Hansen finished the championship on 421 points, ahead of Marmont (362), Suzuki’s Jake Moss (311), Simmonds (296) and Reardon (285).

The Lites championship went right down to the wire with Suzuki warrior Matt Moss eventually making it a three-peat, but by only two points over KTM’s PJ Larsen.

But it was a heart-stopper the whole way. In the first five-lapper Moss and Larsen both went down, with the latter unable to rejoin and Moss having trouble restarting his bike.

In the second moto, Honda’s Kade Mosig enjoyed his first win of the series with Larsen second and Steven Clarke (Suzuki) third. Moss crashed in the first lap and finished 10th, leaving Moss and Larsen all square on 290 points going into the last race.

Clarke was the victor, but all eyes were on Moss and Larsen in second and third respectively – and that’s the way they finished.

Ryan Marmont (KTM) was third overall in the championship.
