Dave Myers, best known for being one of the two co-stars of the Hairy Bikers, lost his battle with cancer on Wednesday 28 February, aged 66.
His co-star and friend Si King announced the news of Myers’ death on social media, saying: “Most of you will know Dave has been fighting cancer for the past couple of years,” he wrote. “Last night, with Lili, Dave’s wife, his family, close friend David and myself by his side, he passed away peacefully at home.”
The Hairy Bikers first aired on British television in 2004, a light-hearted series which combined the pair’s mutual love of motorcycle travel and cooking. Since then, they’ve published numerous cookbooks and filmed various specials, spin-offs, with the final series Hairy Bikers Go West going to air as recently as 6 February in the UK.
First diagnosed in May 2022 with an undisclosed form of cancer, Myers underwent chemotherapy before taking to social media in February 2023 with the news he’d purchased a Royal Enfield Bullet Trials 500, in what he said at the time as being “a big step forward” towards “getting back in the saddle”.
Myers and King were more often than not filmed riding BMW machinery, but were filmed on other machines also, such as Triumphs, KTMs, Yamahas and BSAs. The pair formed a tight bond during their motorcycling and cooking adventures, a friendship King said he was “devastated” to lose.
“My best friend is on a journey that, for now, I can’t follow. I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime. I wish you god’s speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. See you on the other side. Love ya.”
