The inaugural Hagar Ride Against Slavery led by the First Bloke, BMW F 800 GS-riding Tim Mathieson, will take place on Sunday, April 14.
Beginning with breakfast at Kirribilli House in Sydney, a limited group of motorcyclists are invited to travel down to Canberra via the Kangaroo Valley to raise funds for Hagar. The ride will end with a barbecue dinner at The Lodge in Canberra.
Hagar CEO, Kate Kennedy said the exclusive ride will support the Hagar Catch Up School, which provides an accelerated learning program for students who have missed years of schooling as a result of human rights abuses.
“The UN estimates that up to 2.4 million people are trafficked each year across the world and forced into labour or sexual exploitation. Half of these are children,” said Ms Kennedy.
“Boys as young as eight are forced to work in brick factories and sold on the streets of Cambodia to pedophiles for $2.50 per week.”
Hagar is an international non-government organisation which specialises in restoring the lives of women and children who have survived modern slavery and severe human rights abuse.
