Harley-Davidson’s focus on getting the next generation of riders behind the bars of its machines has been extended to kids with the purchase of mini e-motorbike maker StaCyc.
The minibikes sell for around $1000 and StaCyc has sold around 6000 machines since it launched in 2016. StaCyc branded bikes will continue to be sold through the StaCyc distribution network, with Harley-badged versions to be sold in H-D dealerships.
Harley-Davidson marketing senior vice-president Heather Malenshek says the acquisition reinforces Harley’s commitment to lead in the electrification of motorcycling. Harley-Davidson had already announced plans to start selling its full-size LiveWire high-performance electric motorbike in 2019, followed by lightweight and middleweight electric motorbikes by 2021.
“We’ve said previously that we believe electric vehicles are where global mobility is headed and they hold great appeal for existing riders as well as opportunity to build new riders,” Malenshek says.
“As we lead in the electrification of motorcycling, we’re demonstrating our commitment by delivering a full range of electric products for a vast audience who will be inspired to imagine and discover what is possible from Harley-Davidson.”
