Guzzi California heads off-road
A Spanish tuning house has created a dirt tracking Moto GuzziWe've looked at one of Spanish tuning house Radical Ducati's creations before, the jaw-dropping RAD02 Imola café racer, and now we're going to profile another. But this one's a little (more) left of centre.
The aptly named Dirt Guzzi is a dirt-track inspired creation that features one of the coolest retro headlight assemblies we've ever seen. Yet with a company name "Radical Ducati" it would seem curious to tune a Moto Guzzi. But when it looks this good we're not going to split hairs over the issue.
The Spanish bike fettlers took a 2003 Moto Guzzi California 1100 and fabricated new frame and ducktail parts, not to mention a custom exhaust system ending in a single Supertrapp muffler, guaranteed to set off car alarms in underground car parks.
As the photos show, the new design boasts a single-seat (taken from a Harley XR750) and the Dirt Guzzi also makes use of a pair of Ohlins rear shockers, which are extended by 20mm over the normal kit when fitted with Hyperpro springs, aimed at improving handling characteristics.
Radical Ducati lovingly explains that the Guzzi's original brakes were shite: "To optimise the poor braking, we installed a good pump of Discacciati Radial PR19".
With an upgraded chassis, a tuned exhaust system and the dramatic new look, the Dirt Guzzi is a keen looking machine and with its WWII fighter plane inspired paint job on the tank, not to mention the inspired headlight assembly, it's another pearler from Radical Ducati.
