The second and final round of the 2014 Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) will proceed on July 19-20 at Phillip Island as scheduled, with governing body Motorcycling Australia (MA) to also moonlight as the promoter.
MA's hand was forced following the recent announcement that previous ASBK promoter International Entertainment Group (IEG) was no longer in charge of proceedings. The same release also announced that Hidden Valley (NT) round of the ASBK, scheduled for June 20-21, was cancelled, trimming the 2014 championship to just two rounds.
MA briefly promoted its own road racing showpiece early last decade before the championship came under the domain of private promoters – IEG taking over proceedings in 2009 until it severed ties with MA just a few weeks back after a troublesome tenure.
Supplementary regulations for Phillip Island will be available next week, along with an online entry form for riders.
MA is also set to make an announcement on an "exciting superbike championship for 2015” in coming weeks.
