From KTM: GMR Motorex KTM racers Kristy Gillespie and Dylan Berwick (pictured) secured strong finishes at the Melton Open in Victoria over the weekend, with Gillespie continuing her dominance in state based events to win the Women's class on board the KTM 250 SX-F, while Berwick took home second overall in both the 250cc and 125 cc, 13-16 years racing.
The Melton complex is confirmed to host the second round of the Victorian Junior Motocross Championships providing a valuable opportunity for Berwick to spend time on the track in preparation for the junior titles.
Dylan contested both the 125 and 250F classes, putting in an impressive effort despite recent bouts of sickness. In the 125 class, Dylan picked up 2-3-22 results and in the 250 class 2-2-2-2, securing him second overall for both classes at the event behind Christopher Gay.
Gillespie took four straight wins in the Women's event, maintaining her dominance in this class, but it was the combined B Grade Lites racing that was mixed with the guys, that Gillespie used to challenge herself, finishing fifth overall for the event.
GMR Motorex KTM Race Team Manager, Glenn Macdonald comments, "The club had gone to extensive efforts to prepare the track with new soil, layout and watering but with 400+ entries the track slowly chopped out which proved more challenging for the riders, said Macdonald.
"The results for Dylan Berwick were excellent considering he has recently been hampered with illness and was a great way to get back onto the track. Berwick chose smart lines and adapted to the conditions of the track extremely well, with Christopher Gay finishing just a few seconds ahead of him.
"Kristy Gillespie was flawless in the Women's class. She continues to strive to improve and challenged the guys in the B grade Lites class. Despite a couple of bad starts, Gillespie made her way through the pack and finished consistently to secure a fifth place, which was a great result."
Both Dylan Berwick and Kristy Gillespie will now be attending the Motocross Advanced Coaching Academy two-day training school at the Maffra-Sale complex. This will be valuable time on the track for both riders given the venue will host both the first round of the Victorian Junior Motocross Championships and the second round of the Australian Women's Championships & Rookies Series.
