Gibbs wins at Conondale

The KTM pilot was in great touch to take the overall in round seven of the 2014 MX Nationals, with championship leader Matt Moss on his bumper

KTM’s Kirk Gibbs has taken outright honours in the premier MX1 class in round seven of the 2014 MX Nationals at Conondale (Qld) on Sunday, July 13.

Gibbs was the standout rider on the day finishing second in the opening two motos before winning the final race, to finish two points ahead of Suzuki’s Matt Moss.

But with also Moss claiming Superpole, Gibbs could only make up one point in the overall championship standings to the defending champion.

Yamaha’s Billy Mackenzie finished the round in third place, which included a hard fought win in the second moto of the day. Mackenzie is third in the overall standings on 482 points, behind Moss (550) and Gibbs (532).

In MX2, 17-year-old privateer Caleb Ward (KTM) was the overall victor, while Luke Clout (Yamaha) still leads the championship. Jed Beaton (Yamaha) took the MXD (development class) honours.
