KTM’s Kirk Gibbs has claimed the overall honours in the MX1 class at the fourth round of the 2014 Monster Energy MX Nationals in Murray Bridge (SA).
Gibbs finished 4-1 results in the two motos, which was enough to give him a three-point round win ahead of Yamaha rider Billy Mackenzie (3-3), Kawasaki’s Jake Moss (6-2) and Kawasaki’s Superpole winner Adam Monea (1-12).
Championship leader Matt Moss (Suzuki, 5-6) could only manage fifth overall, while Cody Cooper (Honda) was another podium finisher courtesy of second place in moto one. Cooper then crashed at turn one in the second outing, which ended his day.
In the overall championship standings, Moss retained the outright lead but has had that whittled down to just 13 points – 294 to 281 -- from Gibbs.
Monea is on 259, with Jake Moss (247) and Mackenzie (242) rounding out the top five.
In the MX2 class, Husqvarna rider Luke Arbon (2-1) was the standout from KTM’s Brendan Harrison (6-3) and New Zealander Kayne Lamont (Husqvarna 1-11).
Championship leader Luke Clout (Yamaha, 4-5) could only manage fourth overall on the day.
Round five of the 2014 Monster Energy MX Nationals makes its way to Wanneroo (WA) on May 25.
