Bug Scooters would like you to know that getting around on a scoot is a great way of saving money.The company writes: A proud owner of a Bug Espresso scooter is saving over $1500 per year as she and her husband save for their first home. Bree Westcott purchased her red Bug Espresso scooter from Scooter Central at Brookvale over 18 months ago, saving around $2250 compared to someone driving a two-litre four-cylinder car in the same period.
"I had my first ride on a scooter when we were holiday in Europe and had so much fun that I wanted to buy one when we got back to Australia," said Bree. "We were saving for a house so I thought a scooter would also be one way of saving money."
"After talking to Scooter Central about my budget and needs, I decided on the Espresso. I liked the styling, the larger wheels and it has proved to be very reliable." Living and working on Sydney's northern peninsular, Bree commutes to her workplace everyday, hail, rain or shine.
"To me, that's the whole idea of owning a scooter -- riding to work on it and then going for rides on the weekend.
"If I have to get to the airport (a 50km round trip via Sydney's Eastern distributor) then I take the scooter. I have no problem getting around anywhere in Sydney on the Espresso.
"Usually on weekends, I ride to Paddington or the city for shopping and also around the beaches."
Bree has clocked up over 8000km on her Bug Espresso and in her own words, "It has never let me down once. "As for the running expenses," she says, "It costs $7.00 to fill up and $200 to register each year - you can't beat that!"
The Bug Espresso is powered by a 150cc four-stroke engine driving through a fully automatic transmission.
It features push-button start, underseat storage, a lockable glove box, a rear alloy-rack, a halogen headlight, and steering lock.
The Bug Espresso rolls on 16-inch alloy wheels and comes with a front disc brake, adjustable rear suspension and maintenance free V-belt final drive.
With a recommend retail price of $4499 plus on road costs, the Bug Espresso is available in burgundy, classic silver and ivory and comes with a 24 month/15,000km warranty.
