The drip feed of information is over, with MV Agusta’s all-new F3 675 supersport bike now revealed in all its glory, boasting a ride-by-wire short-stroke engine, a ‘personally’ tuneable map, traction control, and a dry weight of 173kg.
And it will retail in Australia for $17,990 ride away, with Australian delivery to commence in late March, 2012 in three different liveries -- red/silver; pearl white with red frame; or black/metallic with red frame.
The F3 675 Serie Oro will be available from February, 2012 in extremely limited numbers by reservation only. Price is $33,990 ride away.
The three cylinder engine utilises a counter-rotating crankshaft and utilises a 79mm bore and a super-short stroke of 45.9mm. Claimed power is 126hp (94.2kW) at 14,400rpm, torque is 71Nm at 10,600, and there’s a bank of three 50mm throttle bodies.
The MV’s major competitor, the Triumph Daytona 675R, claims 124hp (92kW) at 12,600rpm and 72Nm at 11,700rpm.
Contributing to the reduced weight and compact design is the application of the “closed deck” integration of the cylinders into the crankcase in a single shell mould casting along with the MVICS system and the use of titanium both for the intake and exhaust valves.
Another unique feature is the integrate oil and water system: the pump system (water and oil) is placed entirely inside the crankcases and all of the passages are contained internal to the engine castings offering both performance and styling advantages.
Thanks to the Motor & Vehicle Integrated Control System (MVICS), the F3 is the first middleweight motorcycle with a full ride-by-wire system, and includes four pre-set maps or the ability to customise a personal map. There’s also traction control that can be selected between eight different levels, accessible from the left handlebar and dashboard interface.
Some of the electronic accessories include a lean sensor, which interfaces with the traction control and engine control algorithms and then adjusts the throttle opening, spark advance and fuel delivery to ensure the optimal safety and acceleration in all dynamic conditions; launch control; anti-wheeling software; and a quickshifter.
As with all previous MV’s, the frame incorporates a mix of steel tubing and aluminium side plates that wrap around the engine.
The F3 has quite a long single-sided swingarm which MV claims “guarantees traction and feedback to the rider”.
The wheelbase is an ultra compact 1380mm, and the bike weighs in at a claimed dry weight of 173kg – 12 less than the 675R.
The suspension – 43mm upside-down Marzocchi forks and Sachs piggyback rear shock – are fully adjustable, and the front brake system consists of a Nissin radial master cylinder and Brembo radial calipers gripping 320mm discs.
The wheels are an aluminium-alloy design.
The bike will be on the MV Agusta stand at the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan from November 8-13.
