From render to production: Can-Am Maverick X3

Bikesales is off to drive the all-new sports side-by-side machine in Baja California, but what's gone on behind the scenes to get it this far?

Fact: it can take up to 36 months to design a new side-by-side vehicle, from the first sketch on a blank sheet of paper.

That's the exercise which Quebec-based powersports behemoth BRP has just gone through to produce the all-new Can-Am Maverick X3 sports side-by-side, which Bikesales will be sampling in Baja California, Mexico over the weekend.

MAVERICK X3 NEWS

So how did it all come together? In the early stages of creating the Maverick X3, a design team from BRP's Centre Design & Innovation Laurent Beaudoin literally sifted through hundreds of renderings of different concepts until it found the one it wanted. Usually, only one design theme is chosen from the masses and that designer can then earn the right to lead the project through concept.

The next phase was focussed on the X3 morphing from a 2D sketch into a 3D clay model, using a variety of sophisticated design programs. The initial clay version would have been a scaled down version before the team made a full-size model.

Throughout this whole process, the design team would have been working in concert with engineering.

Attached is an early concept rendering of the Maverick X3 done by Alexei Mikhailov.

There it is: a snapshot of a vehicle design from conception to production. We'll start sending through Maverick X3 images and words from Mexico in just a few days, so stayed tuned for that.
