For the third time this year, French motorcycle riders have recently hit the streets on masse to protest against a ruling government which they believe is treating them like “cash cows”.
The riders demanded from Claude Guéant, their interior minister, the immediate implementation of measures designed to promote motorcycle training and awareness rather than solely focus on cashing in thousands of euros a day from bikers who may fail to adhere to anti-bike rules and regulations imposed on them without valid justification.
Among the laws they are protesting against include the compulsory wearing of a fluorescent high visibility vest, the continued ban on filtering through stationary or slow moving traffic, and the proposed introduction of larger size registration plates.
Around 50,000 motorcyclists hit the street of France in protest, bringing many of them to a complete standstill,
with about 4000 in Paris. Moreover, riders from the UK also crossed the Channel in a show of solidarity.
We’ll be keeping an eye on this one, as people power comes to the fore.
