The second annual Fred Hollows Ride will culminate on Sunday, April 22 in the Outback New South Wales town of Bourke, the final resting place of the late pioneering surgeon whose sight restoring work continues today through his foundation namesake.
Organised by Mike and Denise Ferris, the ride invites anyone around Australia to register their involvement before riding to meet in Bourke on the Sunday of the Anzac Day weekend, to raise money for the Fred Hollows Foundation.

Situated some 750km north west of Sydney and 1200km north of Melbourne, Bourke was where Hollows spent a good deal of his time in his later years, and his work has since halved avoidable blindness in indigenous Australian communities.
Registration is $25 per person, the same price of the very many eye-restoration surgeries undertaken by the foundation each and every year. Half of the ride’s funds will be funnelled into continuing the work of the Foundation for indigenous Australians, while the other half will contribute to the work the Fred Hallows Foundation carries out overseas.

“The inaugural ride was a great success, thoroughly enjoyed by all who braved the rain, the cold and the heat to ride to Bourke and back,” Denise Ferris said.
