Yamaha world Superbike rider Eugene Laverty is the first motorcycle racer in the world to launch a personal iPhone app, with fans now able to stay in touch with his on-track news and antics around the clock.
Laverty is no stranger to the world of social networking, having been an avid blogger and tweeter for the past three seasons. And now he has taken the next step by launching the Eugene Laverty app, designed as an extension of his website www.eugenelaverty.com.
In keeping with Laverty's traditional green and black website and merchandise, the app features his famous Leprechaun logo and offers a variety of new and unique content of news, videos, fan page, calendar and guide
“I was really keen on the idea because I'm very big on the whole social media explosion and believe that the next step forward was my own app," explained Laverty. "The fan page has been created so users can take a snapshot of where they are and post it straight up. We hope that in a few years we will have a photograph from every country in the world. It's designed to be interactive and a bit of fun.”
After finishing runner-up in the past two world Supersport titles, Laverty has made the step up to world Superbikes in 2011, where he will campaign alongside former MotoGP winner Marco Melandri in the Yamaha factory team.
The opening round will be held at Phillip Island from February 25-27.
