The website has been designed so all motorcyclists, not just those directly represented by the Council, can select their electorate to view the replies of their candidates and decide who would best represent their interests as a motorcyclists.
The motorcycling community is an increasingly relevant group for politicians. Over 400,000 licenses are on issue in NSW. The motorcycle fleet continues to expand. Currently over 120,000 registered and 80,000 unregistered off-road motorcycles in NSW, with a revolving pool of current or latent riders of around 270,000.
Increasing sales is partly the result of increasing congestion and the increasing price of petrol. For example scooter sales have increased by around 50% per year for the last 5 years.
Motorcyclists come from all walks of life, many riders return to motorcycling after raising a family or shorter breaks. The average age of a motorcyclist in NSW is now 43 years. This contradicts the view that motorcyclists are young and not politically relevant.
Candidates from all political parties will be asked to provide their views on a range of topics important to motorcyclists These include: tolls, E-tags, parking, road safety and inclusion of motorcycles in transport plans. Candidates will also be asked to explain why motorcyclists should vote for them.
Motorcyclists are able to view responses on the website by searching by electorate. The site is linked to the NSW Electoral Commission to enable motorcyclists to determine their electorate and links to the current policies towards motorcyclists in order for motorcyclists to compare and contrast policies with the candidates' opinions.
