FIM caught in Superbike dilemma
Spare a thought for the world controlling body for racing, the FIM, which is currently caught between two major teams saying they might pull out of superbikes.Ducati is pushing for a change of rules which will allow it to race 1200cc twins (the race version of the 1098 street bike displaces 1198cc) and says it will leave the class if this is not in place by 2008.
Meanwhile Alstare Suzuki says the capacity hike for twins would be an unfair advantage and that it would redirect its efforts to MotoGP if Ducati got its way.
Superbike rules for many years allowed 1000cc twins to race against 750cc fours. Currently there is a blanket 1000cc limit.
