Ferris wins Aussie MX title with a round to spare
The Yamaha rider has claimed his second successive M1 title, and in the most emphatic fashionAn Australian champion was crowned at round nine of the 2017 Motul MX Nationals in Toowoomba (Qld) on Sunday, August 13, with CDR Yamaha’s Dean Ferris racing to a double win and claiming his second consecutive MX1 title with a round to spare.
Ferris, 27, now sits on an unassailable 633pts, ahead of Kirk Gibbs (KTM, 533), and Yamaha's Kade Mosig (468).
“At the start of the year you have all these dreams and goals you want to achieve but rarely does it ever go 100 per cent to plan but my 2017 season has been awesome,” said Ferris.
“To win eight out of the nine rounds completed so far and win the championship with a round to go leaves me a little speechless. It has just been an amazing run.
“Every round things have gone well and the CDR Yamaha team and I have just gone about our business each and every week and we have been rewarded with another championship.
“I can’t thank everyone on the team for their 100 per cent commitment to being the best and giving me exactly what I need to get the results we have. We have a great bunch of people and sponsors in the team that all have played a part in our success."
Ferris won the opening moto ahead of Gibbs, American Kyle Peters (Suzuki), Nathan Crawford (Kawasaki) and Todd Waters (Honda), and in the finale it was the same trifecta from Mosig and Crawford.
The 2017 Motul MX Nationals will conclude in Coolum (Qld) on the weekend of August 19-20.
