CDR Yamaha’s Dean Ferris showed no mercy for his rivals as he dominated round six of the 2017 MX Nationals in Nowra (NSW) on Sunday, July 2.
Fresh from a successful racing stint in the US, Ferris was straight back into MX Nationals business after a five-week break as he took two flawless wins in the premier MX1 category.
He has now taken the overall victory in all six rounds and sits on a near perfect 427pts in the 10-round championship, ahead of Kirk Gibbs (KTM, 366) and Kade Mosig (Yamaha, 329).
“My attitude coming in was that everyone uses the break to reset and refresh and hit the round with renewed energy," said Ferris.
“Fifteen and 12-second wins look great on paper, but on this track that takes an enormous amount of work and you are never safe. Nowra is a track that is very easy to lose time and difficult to make it back so it requires a lot of focus on the track to keep punching out consistently fast laps.
“It was a great way to start the second half of the year, and I can’t thank everyone at CDR Yamaha enough for providing me with everything I need to race at my best.
“We now move onto Shepparton in two weeks’ time, and it’s a completely different style of track. I’m looking forward to riding in the long ruts and technical layout."
Brett Metcalfe, who joined the factory Kawasaki team just before the event, made a brilliant debut for his new employer by finishing second overall in Nowra ahead of Gibbs, Luke Clout (Honda) and Nathan Crawford (Kawasaki).
Luke Styke (KTM) is fourth in the standings on 310pts ahead of Todd Waters (Honda, 304).
