Ferris lands first blow in MX Nationals

Two solid wins for the Yamaha rider in round one, as he finished with the overall ahead of Kade Mosig and Kirk Gibbs

Yamaha's Dean Ferris claimed the major spoils in round one of the 2017 Motul MX Nationals in Wonthaggi, Vic on April 2.

Ferris won both 30-minute (plus a lap) motos, the first ahead of Kade Mosig (DPH Motorsport Yamaha) and Todd Waters (Crankt Protein Honda Racing Team), and the second in front of Mosig and Kirk Gibbs (KTM Motocross Racing).

“You always want to come out of the first round with good points, but we maximised them today and I’m really happy with the improvements that CDR Yamaha and myself made in the off-season,” Ferris said.

“This championship is deep and ultimately that’s what we want. The boys were riding really well today, and you have to work really hard to be at the front.

“That’s what we’re doing; we’re going to try and ride smart this year and be strong as well.”

After round one of 10, Ferris leads the premier MX1 title on 70pts from Mosig (64), Gibbs (58), Luke Style (KTM, 42), Luke Clout (Honda, 51), Waters (51), American Kyle Peters (Suzuki, 47), Nathan Crawford (Kawasaki, 46), Dylan Long (Yamaha, 45) and Aleksandr Tonkov (Kawasaki, 40).

Wilson Todd (DPH Motorsport) and Cooper Pozniak (Yamaha) won the MX2 and MXD classes.
