At thrilling sixth round of 2018 MX Nationals at Murray Bridge (SA) on May 27, Yamaha’s defending champion Dean Ferris maintained his perfect record of round wins in the premier MX1 class but lost his first race of the season to Husqvarna-mounted Victorian Kade Mosig.
Ferris won the opening moto and then Mosig the second, but it was the former who claimed the overall on 67pts ahead of Kirk Gibbs (KTM, 60).
Mosig (57pts) was next, from KTM’s Luke Clout (56) and Brett Metcalfe (Honda, 53).
FULL RESULTS ACROSS ALL CLASSES
In the opening moto, Ferris defeated Clout by five seconds, followed by a goggle-less Gibbs, Metcalfe and New Zealander Rhys Carter (Kawasaki).
Mosig all the way in race two, fending off immense pressure from Ferris for the whole duration. Gibbs finished third, more than 20 seconds behind the leading pair, followed by Dylan Long (Yamaha) and Metcalfe.
“How can you not be happy with a 1-2 result and a round win?” Ferris said. “I would love to win every race I enter but sometimes things happen, sometimes other riders ride well, sometimes it just wasn’t meant to be, but I far from disappointed as I feel like my riding is good and the bike and team are working well.
“Kade rode a great race and I actually enjoyed being in a battle. It gives me motivation to know that I have to ride my best to win these races and I will work even harder to increase my speed and fitness during the break.
“The track to day was awesome and the club day a great job of preparing the track. It’s nice to get to the mid-way point with the championship with the points lead and I can’t thank everyone on the CDR Yamaha Monster Energy Team for their support."
