The 2017 MX Nationals officially wrapped up at Coolum on the Sunshine Coast on Sunday, August 20 with CDR Yamaha’s Dean Ferris concluding the MX1 season in epic fashion.
Ferris, who became champion-designate the previous week in Toowoomba, won both motos in the final round, both ahead of Todd Waters (Honda) and Kirk Gibbs (KTM).
Ferris completed the championship on 705pts from Gibbs (616), Kade Mosig (Yamaha, 542), Waters (532) and Luke Styke (KTM, 500).
“This championship means everything, it’s just as good as the first one, if not better,” Ferris said.
“Last year was rough and tough, but this one is special to me as well. It was nice to roll into Coolum this morning without all that pressure I had last year, but I really wanted to win today. I wanted to finish the season the true champ."
Ferris' next major assignment is the 2017 Motocross of Nations alongside Gibbs and Hunter Lawrence.
Meanwhile, Egan Mastin (KTM) is the MX2 MX Nationals champion for 2017, while Maddy Brown (Yamaha) won the women's title.
