The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industry (FCAI) has launched a safety campaign for side-by-side (SXS) vehicle users.
Also known as utility terrain vehicles (UTVs), side-by-side vehicles are four-wheel off-road machines that feature roll cages to protect the driver.
The vehicles are used mainly on farms and in racing, and are sometimes seen as a safer alternative to quad bikes (ATVs). However, SXS vehicles still present dangers, and a recent series of accidents have prompted fresh safety calls.
With support from its members including BRP, Honda, Kawasaki, Polaris, and Yamaha, the FCAI has commissioned a “long-term, multi-platform” safety campaign which began on October 21.
The new campaign addresses five key areas and encourages SXS users to wear a helmet, use nets and doors properly, wear seat belts, avoid overloading the vehicle, and ride to the terrain and weather conditions.
As well as a dedicated website, the campaign will also involve television commercials and social media posts.
