Back in March 2014, 23-year-old Swede Robert Gull rode a Honda CBR1000RR on a frozen lake in northern Sweden, reaching a chilling speed of 183.8km/h (114.2mph) over 100 metres.
His record, which beat the previous mark of 176.22km/h, has now been officially recognised by Guinness World Records.
Gul told www.autoevolution.com that the hardest part of setting the new record was landing the front wheel on the Fireblade, but he came through the record runs unscathed. The record was set on Lake Kakel in Arjeplog, and the only modifications to the bike were race fairings and special-design Dunlop tyres with studs for improved grip.
In other record-breaking news, Canberra-based David Richards has earnt a Guinness World Record for the largest image made of LED lights. With 1,194,380 lights making up a 3D image of three Christmas gifts spanning 3865 square metres, as well as tens of thousands of lights creating a magical backdrop, the display has transformed Canberra’s CBD into a festival of light to raise money for the charity SIDS and Kids ACT.
