Faith returns to defend SX Lites crown

America's Gavin Faith is heading back to Oz to defend his 2012 Lites championship

US rider Gavin Faith (pictured, with bike) has announced he will return to Australia to defend his Aussie Supercross Lites title, replacing an injured Josh Cachia in the Carlton Dry Honda Racing Team.

Faith finished fifth in the AMA Supercross East Coast Championship this year and will now spend August at the Millsaps Training Facility before returning to Australia in early September to defend his crown.

Faith said he was thrilled to be heading back to Oz. “I’m really looking forward to coming back to Australia,” he said. “This will be my third time there competing in Supercross and this year I return as the defending champion. I had a good season in the US finishing fifth in the East Coast championship, so I think I’ll be returning even better prepared this year,” he added.

Carlton Dry Honda Racing will also be joined by young Aussie gun Jackson Richardson (pictured, in orange helmet), who has returned to Australia on a break from his US campaign. Richardson will race a Honda CRF250R in MX2, while teammate Gareth Swanepoel tackles MX1.

Richardson said the timing couldn’t have been better. “I haven’t raced motocross in Australia since 2011 so I’m looking forward to getting out there and showing what I can do,” he said.

“The US has been an amazing experience; I’ve learnt a lot competing in both the AMA Supercross and AMA Pro Motocross.

“This opportunity came up at the right time. I had finished my program of events and was due to come home for a break,” he added.

The team will be hoping the new blood brings with it a change in fortunes, as Ben Townley, Ford Dale and Josh Cachia are all presently sidelined with injuries.
