Daryl Beattie is perhaps best known for his feats in the 500cc World Motorcycle Championship – he finished second to Mick Doohan in the 1995 title with Lucky Strike Suzuki.
These days, however, he gets his two-wheeled thrills at a somewhat more relaxed pace aboard a Honda Africa Twin adventure bike or CRF enduro, in some of the most remote parts of Australia.
Ride with Daz
The good news is, you can join Daz for the ride – and let his motorcycle tour company, Daryl Beattie Adventures, take all the hassle out of riding to some of our most exotic destinations.
Bikesales is currently gearing up to tackle a Daryl Beattie Adventures tour to the Kimberley, in Western Australia's rugged north-west. It's one of the company's Honda Africa Twin rides, placing the top-selling adventure bike at the disposal of tour participants to discover iconic rides like the Tanami, Oodnadatta and Birdsville Tracks, Tasmania and more.
The Honda Africa Twin was our 2016 Bikesales Bike of the Year winner, and came up trumps in our last big-bore adventure bike comparison test, which took us to NSW's Mungo National Park.
The company also offers Honda CRF450-mounted tours to places like Cape York, the Simpson Desert and the Canning Stock Route, while there's also one that takes in the Finke Desert Race and Alice Springs.
Best of all, you can tackle these epic rides with the security of Daryl's experienced support team behind you – that includes Daz leading the ride, a sweep rider, and technical, luggage and medical backup courtesy of the company's Iveco 4x4 Eurocargo support truck.
We've heard the tour will comprise a relatively small group of riders, along with some 'special guests' from the GP world – stay tuned!
The five days/five nights tour concludes in the remote outpost of Halls Creek, where a charter flight takes participants back to Broome for their commercial flights home.
This Kimberley tour costs $5500, which includes the flight from Halls Creek to Broome and includes all meals and accommodation (participants pay separately for flights to and from Broome, and the first night's accommodation in Broome).
Bikesales will bring you a full report on the trip after we've shaken off the dust and returned to chilly, traffic-congested Melbourne, but in the meantime for more information head to www.darylbeattieadventures.com.au.
