Who wouldn’t want the chance to ride around the world? It has to be the ultimate dream for just about every motorcyclist, but few of us will ever achieve this goal. Well, why not plan ahead and be one of the lucky ones that will take their motorcycle on a 280-day, epic expedition that will cross six continents, visit over 40 countries and take in more than 80,000 km of adventure.
In 2010-2011, the UK-based company GlobeBusters,, run by Julia and Kevin Sanders, led a group of riders on a voyage of discovery around the world called "Discover our Earth”. In 2014, that’s going to parlay into something even bigger – “Explore our Earth”.
The route has been designed for participants to share some of the most remarkable motorcycling in the world as well as the huge differences of culture, language, food and traditions.
The epic is split into six sections -- London to Xi’an, Xi’an to Bangkok, Perth to Sydney, Nairobi to Cape Town, Buenos Aires to Bogota and Panama to Los Angeles – and riders can choose to ride the full route or book individual sections.
For expedition leader and GS fanatic Kevin Sanders, the voyage is as much about self-discovery as it is about experiencing the amazing variety of life, landscapes and roads from the saddle of a BMW bike, in the company of like-minded enthusiasts. Having spent much of his life travelling on GS bikes, Kevin is eager to show others the amazing sights and life-changing experiences that motorcycle adventure travel can bring.
"The interest in this trip is huge," says the BMW GS-riding Kevin, the double Guinness World Record holder for endurance motorcycling.
"We have a couple of hundred people who have already registered their interest so far but not everyone will be up to the task. It’s a massive undertaking that requires total commitment. I personally led the "Discover Our Earth” expedition and it was a total success.
“The 10-month trip will start in May 2014 in London and we’ll take the Silk Road to Xi’an in China, then go down to Bangkok, then around Australia, then southern Africa, then South America and Central America before finishing with the stars in Hollywood.
"Those who register will receive a phone call from me to talk them through the requirements and check out if they are serious about the challenge. We are limiting each section to 15 people, so the best thing is to contact me via globebusters.com for more details."
