Everts wins famous beach race

A three-hour torture test

Endurance races across all disciplines of motorcycle competition are arduous, but BikePoint challenges anyone to come up with a sterner test of character than beach racing.

We struggle to plough through the sand en route to the water, and the chaffing isn't nice either, so we're pretty impressed with multiple world motocross champion Stefan Everts' effort in winning the famous MX Weston Beach endurance race in the south-west of England last weekend.

Even though he claimed his fitness was well down, Everts still won by over two minutes on his KTM, showing many experienced hands - many of them his former world motocross contemporaries - and young upstarts that's he's still the boss.

Young Scot Shaun Simpson (KTM) was second, while British enduro gun David Knight was only 13th, finishing three laps down on Everts.

There were well over 900 starters in the race, and around 100,000 spectators - and I think the attrition rate among the crowd was higher than the riders…
