The motorcycle fraternity is getting all shook up at the prospect of the last bike owned by Elvis Presley setting a new auction record.
Auctioneers Kruse GWS Auctions has set a minimum price of $148,000 for the 1976 Harley-Davidson FLH 1200 Electra Guide.
Memorabilia and collectible experts are predicting it could sell for up to $3 million, making it easily the most expensive bike ever sold.
The record was set last year at $1.37 million for a 1951 Vincent Black Lightning, which eclipsed the $1.22 million paid for Steve McQueen’s 1915 Cyclone board track racer in 2015.
Presley was a huge fan of machines on two and four wheels, highlighted by his love of Cadillacs.
Decades of music success gave him the means to pay for those toys and he reputedly bought as many as 200 Caddys as personal drives and gifts for friends and family.
His preference for locally made machinery also saw him own a succession of Harley-Davidson bikes, culminating in the 1976 FLH 1200 Electra Glide.
The auction notes states: “After purchasing a Harley-Davidson Sportster 1000 as a gift, Elvis purchased this customized full dress Harley for himself.
“The motorcycle shows very low, original miles (126) and has retained all of its originality as when it was purchased by Elvis.”
Presley had the Harley customised with a two-tone paintjob, chrome highlights and a stitched leather seat.
The King actually sold the bike a few months before he died on the throne but the machine is still registered in his name.
It has spent the past 30 years being one of the major exhibits at the Pioneer Auto Museum in South Dakota.
The auction will take place on August 31, 2019 appropriately at the Hard Rock Café in Hollywood.
