Electronic warning system for bikes

Europe looks to technology to reduce crashes

The European Union has given the green light for the development of a new scheme called Saferider, which aims to create on-board electronic safety aids for motorcycles.

Among the gizmos being discussed are proximity warnings (too close to another vehicle) speed warnings and information on road conditions.

The idea has been given a qualified thumbs-up by the Federation of European Motorcyclists Associations, which is running a multi-lingual survey on the idea.
