Electric Shock
Shocking bike news from California… Where else?Imagine walking out to your shed to find someone had done this to your shiny new sportsbike.
It may be seriously ugly, but this electric-powered R1 is also fairly quick, according to builders Richard Hatfield and Todd Kollin of Electric Motorsport of Oakland, USA.
Weighing in at a claimed 181kg, the machine employs 28 Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries which are lighter and more powerful than the lead-acid equivalents.
The makers say the bike is good for 150km/h, will get to 100 in under five seconds and will travel about 80-120km between charges.
One catch is the conversion is hideously expensive – around $US18,000.
