As the electric motorcycle industry goes from strength to strength, Zero Motorcycles recently launching the first road-registerable electric bike in Australia, racers can now get in on the act with the Australian FX-Superbike Championship confirming an electric bike category.
Running alongside the 2011 Australian FX-Superbike Championship using TTXGP rules, there will be three competition rounds and one practice round for entrants for the newly created eFX Championship, which marks the first time that Australia has seen a national 'e-championship'.
It will incorporate two classes, TTX75 and TTXGP, and will be televised nationally on free to air channel SBS as part of the Speedweek program, and also on the Fox pay TV network. It will also get international TV distribution as per all TTXGP series around the world.
After the final round in October, the winner of the Australian eFX Championship will be granted an invite to contest the TTXGP World Series Final.
Terry O'Neill the Managing Director of ARTRP, the series promoter, said an electric motorcycle racing championship would be ideally suited to Australia. "We have always been involved in innovative ideas to further motorcycle racing in Australia; we started by having the first motorcycle carbon neutral racing events in the southern hemisphere and now by encouraging the local EV patrons to get involved building and racing motorcycles."
The founder and CEO of TTXGP, Azhar Hussain, was clearly happy to seal another deal for electric motorcycle road racing: "We are very excited to be working with ARTRP and help launch a new national electric championship. eFXC/TTXGP will be a fantastic opportunity for anyone wishing to join the growing group of EV racers as well as sponsor a new, exciting, high profile race series."
