Electric bike bites the dust

Hot on the heels of the announcement of the Vectrix maxi scooter comes news of the Blade T-6 dirt bike, the result of a collaborative effort of suppliers from Sweden, Italy, Finland. Spain, Belguim, US, and China, but designed and manufactured in the USA

The 25hp machine (18 at the rear wheel) claims to weigh just 81 kilos and have a top speed of 65km/h, with a 0-50km/h time of 4 seconds. Suspension is Ohlins kit, while the built-in software offers a user-programmable throttle response.

Its makers, Electric Moto Corp of Southern Oregon, say the 48 volt power unit will last 30 to 60 minutes of trail use or 15 minutes if held flat-out the whole time. Recharging is via a wall socket.

The company has distributors in Europe, but not Australia. You can however buy a bike online for around $10,000. See www.electricmoto.com.
