Yamaha has updated its long-standing TMAX for 2017, turning the 530cc maxi-scooter into a three-tiered range for the new model year.
Joining the updated standard model, which is 9kg lighter than the model it replaces, will be a sports-oriented version called the TMAX SX was well as a range-topping luxury version dubbed the TMAX DX.
All three versions are powered by the same 530cc engine which has been equipped with the firm’s YCC-T (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle) and are all beneficiaries of a new lightweight cast aluminium frame and resin subframe.
The swingarm has been extended by 40mm over the outgoing model, all three boast keyless ignition and all gain Yamaha’s My TMAX Connect app – which is basically a smartphone-enabled version of the brand’s DataDot security feature designed for owners to track their bike if it is stolen.
Both the SX and the DX versions are equipped with two riding modes, D-mode and S-mode with the latter providing a more responsive throttle than the more economical D-mode. The SX gets a manually adjustable screen over the DX’s electrically adjusted affair, while the DX also gets luxuries such as heated grips, a heated seat and cruise control as standard fitment.
