EICMA: Triumph Street Scrambler

Original Bonneville-based Scrambler returns with electronic aids

While many people expected the British firm to whip the covers off its new Street Triple 796, Triumph used the EICMA motorcycle expo in Milan to unveil the latest bike to spawn from the new Bonneville platform, the Street Scrambler.

Powered by the same 900cc so-called High Torque engine as the recently unveiled Street Cup, the Street Scrambler adopts off-road esque styling with its high-mounted exhaust, one-piece handlebar, fork gators and bash plate. It gets dual and adjustable rear shocks, rolls on a 19-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear and features racing-inspired side-mounted number plates.

The new Scrambler offers a level of technology not seen before on what is arguably the pioneer of the modern Scramblers, with the 2017 Street Scrambler boasting both switchable ABS and traction control. Like its Street Twin counterpart, it employs a torque assist clutch as well as a USB charging socket under the seat.

A practical addition is the ability to convert the bike between single and two-up riding duties with removable pillion pegs the pillion seat pad can be swapped for an aluminium rack.

The 2017 Street Scrambler will be available in three colour options: black, khaki or red/silver.
