When it comes to world domination – well, road racing and moto trials at least – Spain is at the forefront.
With all that popularity, we’re not surprised that a new trials manufacturer is now on the scene – Vertigo Motors. And the company unveiled its first bike in Milan a few days ago, with 12-time world outdoor and indoor champion Dougie Lampkin on hand to lift the covers off two versions of the new 300cc two-stroke: ‘Camo’ and ‘Ice Hell’. Lampkin will now continue as its brand ambassador and racing manager.
The engine produces 31hp at 9200rpm, while the bespoke engine management system allows the rider to choose between four different maps in each of the six gears – a total of 24 different configurations. The ECU adjusts the fuel injection and ignition settings in every gear.
A specially designed radiator works in conjunction with the electronic water pump and fan, responding directly to water temperature rather than engine speed or rider activity.
The tubular steel main section of the frame is supported by aluminium sub-sections at the front and rear, and it also has a Reiger shock absorber.
With the small trials market in Australia, the Vertigo is unlikely to find a local suitor anytime soon, but we’ll be keeping an eye on how it fares against the heavyweights such as Montesa, Gas-Gas and Sherco.
