In what MV Agusta is calling a tribute to the beguiling 1973 MV Agusta 750 S, it has revealed a concept bike at this year’s EICMA complete with an all-new inline four-cylinder engine.
While the press release goes to great lengths to have us believe the concept isn’t a modern reinterpretation of an historic model, the inspired styling cues are clear to see. And while the model is described as a ‘concept’ throughout the release, things like Euro 5 compliance for the 921cc engine, the numberplate hanger and the inclusion of the firm’s latest electronic rider aids all tell a very different story.

“The challenge with the 921 project was to break free of the traditional framework of the retro segment, which tends to propose a technically updated replica of a past model,” the statement reads.
“In contrast, the MV Agusta project creates a new technological and design architecture, that pre-empts solutions and ideas that are truly forward-thinking.”
According to MV Agusta, the radial-valve DOHC 921cc inline four can produce 115.5hp (85kW) at 10,000rpm with torque peaking at 116.5Nm at 7000rpm.
Suspension is the same electronically controlled Öhlins Nix units as found on the newly unveiled MV Agusta Superveloce 1000 Serie Oro, with braking looked after by a pair of Brembo’s very best Stylema calipers biting 320mm discs up front with a twin-piston caliper gripping a 220mm disc at the back.
The 4.5-inch TFT dash is touchscreen enabled, allowing the rider to access the full gamut of electrickery, including cruise control, GPS navigation, and engine, suspension and rider aid setups.
No word, of course, on if or when it might ever find the production line, but bikesales thinks the so-called ‘concept that’s pre-empting forward-thinking solutions’ might be closer to production than MV is letting on. Especially now the forward-thinking Stefan Pierer of KTM has a financial stake in the once struggling Italian firm…
