Moto Guzzi took the wraps off two California 1400 variants at the recent EICMA motorcycle fair in Milan – the Audace and Eldorado -- as well as this prototype version – the MGX-21. We see a motorcycle with fairly unusual styling, but to Moto Guzzi it’s an emblem which “takes and combines elements, seeks out the influence of different cultures but drafts each foundation to lead everything back to the riding experience which belongs to every Moto Guzzi”. And “only those who have very deep roots, those who do not suffer from an identity crisis can afford such an extreme style”.
Coming back down to earth, in reality it’s a commitment to keep building a family around the throbbing 1400cc V-twin in the California 1400s (and the two new variants), and this one could well be the next in line.
There aren’t too many specific details to pass on, except for the fully enclosed 21-inch front wheel, which really adds definition to the petal disc brake. Elsewhere, the top fairing is a mix of angles with just a little bit of a Harley-Davidson feel, the pipes are massive, and it probably won’t be the most uncomfortable thing going around.
We’ll keep you posted if it hits the production line at Mandello del Lario.
