EICMA: Kawasaki Versys 900 makes debut

Kawasaki’s new Versys 900 sports-tourer combines a 948cc four-cylinder engine with radar-assisted rider aids, revised chassis geometry and a touring-focused SE variant

Kawasaki has given its new Versys 900 its first public showing at EICMA 2026 in Milan, introducing a four-cylinder sports-tourer that slots between the existing Versys 650 and Versys 1100 models.

First announced in October, the 2027 Versys 900 is powered by a 948cc liquid-cooled inline-four engine derived from Kawasaki’s Z supernaked range, producing a claimed 89.6kW (120hp) at 9500rpm and 97.3Nm of torque at 8000rpm.

The engine is housed in an all-new steel trellis frame, designed to provide a balance of rigidity and responsive handling while accommodating a pillion and touring luggage.

Kawasaki claims near-50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution.

Long-travel suspension and 17-inch wheels at both ends, fitted with Metzeler Roadtec 01 tyres, give the Versys 900 a road-focused set-up, while an upright riding position, seven-position adjustable windscreen and two-position adjustable seat height of 825–845mm cater for longer journeys.

The Versys 900 also becomes the first model in the family to feature Kawasaki’s Advanced Rider Assistance Systems (ARAS), incorporating Adaptive Cruise Control Lite, Forward Collision Warning and Blind Spot Detection.

Other electronic features include Kawasaki Cornering Management Function (KCMF), traction control, enhanced ABS, selectable power modes, integrated riding modes and a quickshifter.

An Emergency Stop Signal system automatically activates the hazard lights during hard braking.

A five-inch colour TFT instrument display provides two selectable layouts, with turn-by-turn navigation and smartphone connectivity through Kawasaki’s Rideology app.

Two variants will be offered, comprising the standard Versys 900 and a higher-specification SE model.

The SE adds LED fog lights, handguards, heated grips, a radiator guard, frame protection sliders, a lower fairing and a centrestand.

Touring accessories include a 47-litre top case and a pair of 32-litre panniers, while Kawasaki will also offer Tourer and Grand Tourer accessory packages in selected markets.

The standard Versys 900 will be available in Metallic Spark Black and Pearl Robotic White, while the SE comes in Plasma Lime Green/Metallic Spark Black and Firecracker Red/Metallic Carbon Gray.

Kawasaki is also displaying its previously announced KLE650 adventure tourer and KX327 two-stroke motocross bike at EICMA, with the latter scheduled to arrive in Australia in the first quarter of 2027.

Both the Versys 900 and Versys 900 SE are expected to arrive in Australia and New Zealand around mid-2027, with local pricing and final specifications yet to be confirmed.
