EICMA: Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 and Svartpilen 401

And a tasty faired concept called the Vitpilen Aero 401

Husqvarna's roadbike platform – or what it calls "Real Street motorcycles" – continues to grow, with the EICMA motorcycle show introducing two new 375cc single-cylinder production models, the VITPILEN 401 and SVARTPILEN 401, as well as the VITPILEN 401 AERO concept.

The "urban street" VITPILEN 401 and "urban explorer" SVARTPILEN 401 both share WP suspension, a slipper clutch, Bosch two-channel ASB, a 9.5-litre fuel tank, a steel trellis frame, LED lights and the 44hp mill.

The VITPILEN's unique touches include the long single seat, clip-on handlebars and street-focused Metzeler M5 tyres, while the SVARTPILEN has a skid plate and tank rack, two single seats, motocross-inspired handlebars and Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tyres. The riding position is, based on its odd-road leanings, more upright than the VITPILEN.

Both machines will go on sale in Europe by autumn 2017, but no word for Australia yet.

Meanwhile, the VITPILEN 401 AERO concept draws inspiration from Husqvarna's past with "an aerodynamic fairing that seems to have been moulded by the wind itself".

The AERO adds a windshield over the production VITPILEN, and it is also powered by the 375cc single.

As we've seen increasingly over the last few years, some models take the fast road from concept to prototype to production: could the AERO be another one of those?
