After debuting on the CB650R and CBR650R in 2024, Honda’s E-Clutch will be available as an option on the 2026 XL750 Transalp, CB750 Hornet, NX500, CBR500R and CB500 Hornet.
The system removes the need to use the clutch lever when starting, stopping or changing gear, allowing the rider to shift via the pedal alone while still retaining the lever for manual use if preferred.
Honda’s E-Clutch combines half-clutch operation, fuel-injection cut and ignition control to smooth gear changes and eliminate shift shock. The result, according to Honda, is a faster and more consistent shift than a traditional quickshifter. The system can also be switched off through the instrument display for conventional operation.

For 2026, the technology is paired with ride-by-wire for the first time on the CB750 Hornet and XL750 Transalp. This allows automatic throttle blipping to match revs on downshifts and smoother upshifts in off-road conditions by monitoring wheel speeds.
The NX500, CBR500R and CB500 Hornet also gain E-Clutch availability, marking its introduction to LAMS-approved models.
Honda Australia reports strong interest in the feature since its local debut, with around two-thirds of CB650R and CBR650R buyers choosing the E-Clutch option. For 2026, availability will extend across LAMS, naked, sports and adventure touring categories.
“We are delighted in the number of customers that have chosen our unique E-Clutch technology so far in Australia,” said Honda Australia General Manager of Powersports and Products, Chris Schultz
“This demonstrates that customers truly want both the freedom to ride in the way that suits their mindset best, whether they are starting their learning journey or maximising the bike’s performance.”
