Honda didn’t display a mountain of new bikes at the just concluded EICMA show in Milan, and the most interest was definitely centred on two prototypes: the street version of the factory RC213V MotoGP bike, and a ‘dirty’ adventure bike which is tipped to go into production for the 2016 model year.
Dirty in a sense that it was covered in mud with a camo look, but take a good look beyond the muck and it looks to be an impressive unit.
The motocross-type saddle gives an indication of intent, with the long, slim and tank-hugging features allowing riders to move about on the machine to match the different terrain.
The engine is a parallel twin, and if you look closely there’s no clutch lever, which means that Honda’s dual clutch technology is probably getting a look in. There’s a steel frame, the wheels are spoked, and tyre sizes are 21 (front) and 18-inch.
As is the norm with prototypes and concepts, tech specs are thin on the ground, with colourful language taking their place. Here’s what Honda said about the adventure bike:
Inspired by both Honda's fantastic heritage in adventure motorcycling and our recent Dakar program, the True Adventure Prototype captures the product direction as Honda seeks to expand its presence in the Adventure segment. This prototype has been developed to deliver outstanding off-road capability, and could provide the basis of a true round-the-world motorcycle. It's influenced by the current Team HRC and the CRF450 RALLY.
We’ll keep you updated, but expected to see this jigger unveiled sometime in 2015.
