Ducati unveiled a so-called mid-sized version of its long-legged Multistrada at the EICMA show in Milan overnight, with the both lighter and smaller Ducati Multistrada 950 joining the Bologna-built ranks.
It’s powered by the firm’s 937cc Testastretta engine tuned for 113hp (83kW) at 9000rpm and 96Nm of torque at 7750rpm and, while it boasts a significant electronics package such as three-level ABS system, an eight-level traction control system and a selection of four engine maps, the 950 is void of the advanced IMU-actuated electronics found on its 1200cc siblings.
Looking very much like its larger sibling, the Multistrada 950 opts for a conventional double-sided swingarm over the 1200’s single-sided affair, its non-adjustable standard seat measures 840mm in height compared to the 1200’s 825mm-845mm adjustable one (though both 820mm and 860mm accessory options will be available).
It is suspended on a Kayaba fork matched to a Sachs shock at the rear – both fully adjustable –and, while its 17-inch cast-alloy rims dictate a certain level of road-bias, it does boast a decent 170mm of wheel travel at each end.
The 950 gets a height-adjustable screen, a 20-litre tank and the whole kit and caboodle tips the scales at 227kg (wet) which is 5kg lighter than the standard Multistrada 1200 and 27kg under the firm’s relatively new 1200 Multistrada Enduro.
The specs certainly lend themselves to Ducati releasing an up-spec S model in the future and, depending on market response, don’t rule out an Enduro version down the line either. In the meantime there will be personalisation packages available – which, incidentally, mimic the names of the four selectable engine maps.
There’s a Touring pack which includes a centre stand and panniers; a Sport pack which includes Termignoni exhaust and billet aluminium bling, an Urban pack which gives you a top case and a USB hub-equipped tank bag as well as the Enduro pack, which includes extra LEDs, crash bars, radiator guard, sump guard, side-stand plate and off-road pegs.
